QOV block drive

Kevin the Quilter is hosting an awesome and dear to my heart Quilts of Valor block drive.
Not sure if you all know or not but my husband is Retired Army, he just (medically) retired June of 2013. In 12 years (2001-2013) he served overseas 6 times. Returning home by way of medivac the last time. He received a wonderful Quilt from American Hero Quilts that we will always cherish. No matter what organization or group I thank any and all who help get a quilt to a service member. So I have sewn up 5 blocks for the block drive. They will ship out today.

Worked up in Green, Blue, Yellow on black.
These are for my ALYOF March goal.
I felt the top needed to be 9 squares instead of 6 (with maybe the 7th extra on the back).
Both blocks are from the book MODERN BLOCKS.
Now that these are worked up onto placement & sashing I go.

March Goal

This month my goal for ALYOF is to figure out placement and piece a top from these lovely 3x6 blocks I received in Q3 of '13.
My block is the bottom left~ I was going for sky blue, grass green, bumble bee yellow on black with the end goal of making a boy quilt.

3x6 blocks

Just received my final block from this quarter of 3x6 on Flickr.
I choose blue (sky/baby) green (grass) yellow (sun/bee) on black
the top is my tester block and the 6 below are the ones I received.

 My vision is a baby boy quilt, I want it to speak of the sky, grass, and bumblebee.
I may just sew the 6 up together as a mini and use mine as the back..... or sew up two more blocks and make it almost crib sized.....

I finished up two minis to send along. I used this XO tutorial as my inspiration for these two.

The girl one finished in at 30x30 and is made from 1/2 a jelly roll.

The boy one finished in at 22x22 and I started with 6.5 cuts.

a piece for me

Just a few days ago I came across this fun tutorial.

Then today I notice this on my desk.

So of course I just had to pull out some scraps and go to town on my very own Halloween (quilt as you go) mug rug.

Am I a quilter?

I'm not to sure....
Am I a sewist? Yes- I love sewing as a whole.
Am I a quilter? I have been self teaching how to quilt over the last year and a half, I have a few finished pieces, I have swapped and gifted quilted items- But does this make me a quilter?
I do believe I fall under quilter as a catagory, Newbie one at that.
Hows that sound? I am a Newbie quilter :)

I love Halloween!

 The piece on the wall was a panel I got last year, I quilted around each scene and framed here and there using fun little spiders and such throughout.

The table runner I received in a swap.

3x6 Q3 Hive 8

I got my blocks done & shipped! 

They were super fun to make. Lots of great color combos to play with and to top it off I was able to use my stash for all 7 blocks. 99.5% of the colored prints were from the 3x6 bee fabric swaps.

Can't wait til all mine come in.

 My inspiration this quarter was a boy sampler in Blue, Green, yellow on black, 

I am seeing the Sky, the Grass & Bumble Bees. :)

Sandy Quilt

After Sandy hit Quilting Gallery coordinated a block/quilt drive, there were block makers and team leaders (quilt put-together-ers).

I had the pleasure of receiving 40 blocks for around the US, I trimmed them and put together rows that I then quilted as I went (QAYG) and backed it with extra wide fabric.
Here is the collage I sent out to the block makers.
