Triangle QAL

So far so good. I am using a FQ pack along with three random solids total of 17 FQ's. It called for cutting 12 per but I got 15 per so I'm growing a lovely stack of extras maybe a mini will get pieced too. We shall see.
Are you quilting along too?

Triangle Quilt Along

I hopped on this one. I saw it, loved it, just had to.....
The Sassy Quilter is hosting a Triangle Quilt Along
Here are my fabrics~ Sky, Ooh La La by Pillow & Maxfield for Michael Miller Fabrics
I've had this for years........
Since I'm working with a FQ Bundle mine will end up being baby sized unless I can pull some solids from somewhere..... I'm trying not to buy unless I have to (mostly backings) so we will see what happens over the next few days.

Gypsy Wife p.2

The second fabric package arrived at the end of Feb.
I had a bit of trouble with this block.
Me & my seam ripper got real comfy together.

I'm still a beginner, I like short cut ways of doing HST or Flying geese. Traditional piecing is a bit difficult for me and I am realizing I don't quite understand the pattern/instructions as written very well.
(or maybe they are missing some info a beginner needs to hear/read to understand)

I was hoping to love this quilt along but grinding my teeth as I read through the block is not a good sign.

Happy New Year! and Jan. Goal

Happy New Year to you & yours!
Here's to a prosperous, joyful & full of love 2014.

A goal of ours here at home for 2014 is less eating out, its only allowed on a Birhday, Holiday, Anniversary if we (or birthday person) so chooses.

One goal of mine here at Noguchi Designs is to link up monthly to A Lovely Year of Finishes with a goal & finish.
Second goal is an item a week. Its not set in stone as life seems to always through me curve balls but a goal is something in the right direction, an item can be a toy, dress, bag, swap piece etc.

Now for my January Goal-

Get the top done on my Penny Patch from last years QAL at Stitched in Color.

Whipped cream would be to sandwich it and the cherry on top would be to start quilting it.

Penny Patch QAL progress

Penny Patch: A Beginners Quilt Along over at Stitched in Color -

So far so good- I am happy with how the quilt is coming together

I am using vintage sheets for my Throw Size Penny Patch Quilt
My colors: A- Pink, B-Yellow, C- Blue, N- Brown, low volume is a full sheet
I did run into an issue that I didnt have enough pieces to make the required squares even though I started with the right amount pieces and cut as directed....
I was lucky to have on hand a few more pinks & yellows to use I also made a few 4 patches to fill in the blocks I didn't have pieces for
A happy mistake since I do like the play on pink & yellow tones in the lay out.

Swoon!

Another Block I've worked on,
this is from the SWOON quilt pattern,
it's my tester block,
not to shabby for my 3rd ever block if I may say so myself, I did pretty well with my 1/4in seams because .....it came out perfectly 24.5 in just like the pattern calls for :D

This will get worked up into a Doll Quilt with cordinating Birthday Doll.
Any takers on calling DIBS so you can customize the hair & eye color?
shoot me an email if so

Mini Quilt = Pillow

One of the finished Mini Quilts from the SewAlong over at Fresh Squeezed
I ended up turning it into a throw pillow, it also was my first PIF suprise of the year.
I just busted out three things at once- new block practice, first pillow, first PIF.
Not to bad for the first 2 weeks of the year

Pic 1 the top, its the courthouse steps block - with my own twist, the last two rows became the borders.

Pic 2 here it is sandwiched & quilted

Pic 3 the pillow insert, made of muslin & stuffed with fabric scraps (to small to do anything with, odds & ends of thread etc. ) such a great way to use them up- something I learned from the Sassy Blog
the back is a thicker canvas

Pic 4 All done & ready to gift
